Stretch ceiling
A new ceiling without demolishing the old one.
A thermo-extensible sheet is fixed to profiles around the perimeter of the room, then heated. As it tightens it gives a continuous surface, with no joint and no patching, a few centimetres below the existing ceiling.
It is a different trade from wall relief, and that is why this service sits apart from the catalogue.
What the membrane solves
A damaged ceiling, without redoing it
Cracks, plaster patching, dried water marks: the membrane runs beneath and the surface becomes continuous again. The existing ceiling stays in place.
Ducts and cables concealed
The void between the membrane and the ceiling takes in what would have had to be chased. It is often what makes a refurbishment possible without a built false ceiling.
Integrated lighting
Downlights, strips, pendants or light frames sit in the plane of the membrane. The layout is decided before installation, never after: the sheet is pierced once.
Wet rooms
The membrane is unaffected by damp, which makes it workable where a painted ceiling calls for making good every few years.
The membrane
- Material
- Thermo-extensible membrane
- Installation
- Perimeter profiles, heat-tensioned
- Surface
- Continuous, with no visible joint
- Damp
- No making good in a wet room
- Upkeep
- Non-porous surface, does not hold dust
The reaction-to-fire classification of the membrane and its test report are being obtained. Ask the adviser for them if your project falls under public-access building rules: we pass them on as soon as we receive them.
Have someone come out
A stretch ceiling is priced on site. The dimensions, the available height and the lighting layout cannot be surveyed from a drawing, and a quotation made at a distance is always corrected upwards.
